Live Concert – Allsköns Musik (Video)

Live concert. October 18, 2023.

Together with my singer Torbjörn Edlund, I did a new mixed concert program, with evergreens and classical piano solos. We played this program in Gamla kyrkan – Östersund / Sweden, on October 18, 2023. The title of this program was ”Allsköns Musik”. That means All Kinds of Music.

Solo Piano Recital in Stockesalen (Video)

Mars 16, 2023. Solo piano recital in Stockesalen.

This concert was really fun to do. Look at this lovely concert hall. The people in the audience are all sitting close to the Steinway grand piano. It was warm in the hall, and it smelled of coffee. It felt very inspiring.

I played a mixed program with Beethoven, Mozart, and my own works. I also played my own arrangements of well known songs.

Before the concert I made this promotion video for facebook.
Live video from the piano recital in Stockesalen. Some glimpses from the program I played.

Piano Recital For Facebook Friends (Video)

Mini concert for facebook friends. Swedish Pianist Jonas Karlsson.

Since many facebook friends can’t hear me play live, and since the short piano clips I post are not full concerts, I made a compromise, and turned on the video camera and recorded a mini concert. Every note is here, including the few wrong ones. Now I also post this recording on YouTube.

No retakes was made for this video. I simply recorded four piano works, and turned off the camera. I am not dressed up for a concert, it is just a rehearsal for my upcoming live concert. I play Chopin and Schumann and two of my own piano compositions. Schumann’s Träumerei is very well known. Chopins Prelude in E major sounds a bit like pop music in my ears. My own Figaro Fantasy is a show piece from my younger days. My own Ballad No. 1 was my first serious concert composition with an Opus number.

The recording was made on February 22, 2023. The piano is a large Steinway grand piano, in Stockesalen on Frösön -Sweden.

Program:

  • 00:0303:57 Jonas Karlsson – Ballad No. 1 in D minor, Opus 4
  • 04:0205:54 Chopin – Prelude in E major, Op. 28 No. 4
  • 06:0709:14 Schumann Träumerei Op. 15 No. 7
  • 09:2013:12 Jonas Karlsson – Figaro Fantasy in D major, Opus 9

Pianist Jonas Karlsson – Variations in A major, Opus 13 (Video)

Swedish pianist Jonas Karlsson plays his own composition ”Variations in A major, Opus 13”.

This video is recorded during a live concert I did in December 2022. I have never posted this composition on YouTube before. I think it was in 2001, I composed theese Variations (on the melody My Hat, It Has Three Corners). It is a composition in A major, and I was thinking of Mozarts Piano sonata in A major when I wrote it. It is not a series of strict variations, but a composition written in a more free form.

It is not even a strictly classical work, but more like an encore in humour style. I have never claimed to be a strictly classical pianist. I am just a pianist.

As always, I prefere to make live videos. The video is recorded in the church in Ytterhogdal, and the piano is a Feurich. A pretty nice piano, by the way.

Swedish Organist Jonas Karlsson plays his own composition – TOCCATA IN B-FLAT MINOR, Opus 14 (Video)

Jonas Karlsson plays his own Toccata in Bb minor, Opus 14. Live concert in April, 2022.

This is an organ video I recorded just a few days ago. During a live concert in Östersund, I played my own composition, Toccata in Bb minor, Opus 14. I have never recorded this Toccata for YouTube, so I decided to do that now.

The recording was made in April 2022, and this organ is a typical baroque style organ. A very good organ for this kind of music. When I wrote this Toccata I was inspired by Iron Maiden.

The press was very excited when I started to play this Toccata live, about. 20 years ago. They said that it sounded like French romantic music, but this is not really true. It is more like heavy metal music.

Swedish Organist Jonas Karlsson plays his own composition – TANGO MILITANTE, Opus 22 (Video)

Here I am sitting at my own digital church organ. I had just composed this Tango, and I decided to make a video recording. I made this recording in November 2017. At the moment this is my latest composition.

It is not really a typical Tango. It is more like a Marsch with a Bolero-rythm. I felt this schould be a Tango that gives us the feeling of marching forward.

The harmonies are dramatic. There is both passion and drama hidden inside this music.

I am using an organ intonation I call ”Cavaillé-Coll”. This organ has a typical modern disposition, but the voices are here French romantic. This is a nice sound for symphonic organ music.

Composing Tangos for the Church Organ

The first tango I wrote for the organ (Tango Concertante, Opus 16), came to me in a dream. Since I had a digital church in my appartment, I could play the music when I woke up, and make it to a nice organ compostion. In the dream the music was played by an accordion player.

Years later I wrote a second tango, called Tango Briljante, Opus 20. Tango Concertante and Tango Briljante was both written in G Minor.

And a couple of years ago, I wrote a third organ tango. Tango Militante in F Minor, Opus 22. That tango sounds a bit like a march.

Theese tangos has been very popular on live concerts.

Organist Jonas Karlsson – Tango Concertante, Opus 16 (Audio)

This is my most popular compostion so far. Tango Concertante, Opus 16. A concert tango in G Minor. I wrote it in 2004. I played it over and over again at my organ concerts.

This Tango starts pretty soft and ends in forte fortissimo. The melody is suggestive, and the puls (the tango rhythm) moves on and on.

This is a high quality audio recording from 2006. On this high quality audio recording, I play on a huge Grönlund organ.

Organist Jonas Karlsson – Toccata Alla Turca, Opus 18 (Audio)

This is my own organ composition Toccata Alla Turca. I wrote this toccata after being in Turkey, in 2005. I went to the city Marmaris. It was a very joyful place.

The music is powerful and filled with pulse. This organ composition music sounds pretty much like symphonic heavy metal. I play this organ solo on a huge 3 manual Grönlund organ in Östersund – Sweden.
