Chopin’s piano music

Piano 2

Chopin was an amazing composer for the piano. He had this unique gift – he was able of writing a very personal and extremely expressive piano music.

Chopin’s piano music will always touch many peoples hearts. His piano music is often composed in virtuoso style, but Chopin was more interested in the content of the music, and the musical expression, than virtuosity for its own sake.

Chopin wrote many works for the piano. I can’t mention them all. He wrote four Ballades. Theese compositions are really music of the highest quality. It is powerful romantic story telling at the piano. He also wrote 24 Etudes for the piano. The Etudes are often pretty short, and they are very expressive and difficult to play.

Chopin was a piano poet. I have played several of his poetic Preludes. Many of his Mazurkas sounds like whispering poetry. At the moment I play Chopin’s Fantaisie-Impromptu in C# Minor, Opus 66. That is romantic piano music – at its best.

Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2, in b-flat Minor, Opus 35, is well known for a very sad Funeral March, and his Piano Sonata No. 3, Opus 58, is one of the most touching Piano Sonatas, ever written. It is filled with breathtaking beauty.
