Swedish Pianist Jonas Karlsson – Franz Schubert

Schubert has written some really great piano music. The four Impromtus, Opus 90, are popular piano pieces, that many people can appreciate. Impromptu Op. 90 No. 3 in G-flat major, is one of the most beautiful piano compositions one can find. Dreamy – in that typical romantic way.

Schubert was not so much interested in dazzling technical fireworks at the piano. He kept the score clean from unnecessary tones. There was a touch of Vienna Classism over his piano works. Most impressive in my ears, are the three huge Piano Sonatas No. 18 in G major – D894, No. 19 in C Minor – D 958, and No. 21, in Bb Major – D 960. The Sonata in C Minor is like a huge train running through the night. The huge sonata in G Major is hypnotic.

Schubert also wrote the impressive Wanderer Fantasy in C Major, Op.15. Piano music that many concert pianists have played. That Fantasy is an amazing composition, and difficult to play.
