Pianist Jonas Karlsson – Piano music by Mozart

Mozart will always be an important composer for piano players. Mozart did not try to develop any revolutionary piano technique, like Liszt did later. Mozart was just interested in writing music of high quality. And he wrote piano music, typical of his time.

Piano sonata in A Major – K 331, is of course one of Mozart’s most well known compositions for the piano. In that sonata, we can hear the ”hit maker” Mozart in the last movement ”Alla turca”. Music that makes us smile.

Mozart also wrote dramatic and sad music, like the Piano sonata in A Minor K 310. In that sonata, there are moments of intense, and beautiful melancholy. It is really deep music.

And sometimes Mozart wrote crazy and innovative piano music, like Fantasia and fugue in C Major – K394. That composition is really interesting.

One of the most popular piano compositions by Mozart is his Twelve Variations on ”Ah vous dirai-je, Maman”. Today that melody is more known as ”Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. Mozarts proves he is a true genius in theese variations. I have played that work recently, so I know what I am talking about.

When I play Mozart’s piano music, I prefer to play it clearly, and not too romantic.
