One of my favorite composers for the piano, is Alexander Scriabin. You see, he sounds very Russian, he had a great feeling for composing for the piano, and he was crazy enough to create something new. One of his best compositions for solo piano is Etude C# Minor Op. 42 No. 5. It is diffucult to find more intense piano music than that. It sounds like a wild fire. It is really crazy music where Scriabin treats the piano in an unusual way.
The perfect music for a rainy day, must be Scriabin’s Etude in Bb Minor, Op. 8 No.11. There is nothing like this Russian melancholy.
At the moment I play Scriabin’s super romantic Etude Opus 2 No. 1 in C# Minor. That is a very sad and nostalgic piano piece.
