Bach – Die Kunst der Fuge

One of my favorite works at the organ is Die Kunst der Fuge – Contrapunctus XI, by J.S. Bach. That is a huge tripple fugue. On this photo, I am sitting at my own digital organ, and I am using a Schnitger organ intonation, while I am playing this fugue.

This fugue, is so powerful, I can even see a shimmering light when I play it.

Bach composed Die Kunst der fuge, just before he died. I can feel that Bach used all his creative genious in this magnificent collection of fugues. In the last fugue (that was never finished), it sounds like the whole universe is expanding. It sounds like going beyond time. I can’t find any better words.

I use Edition Peters when I play theese fugues.  That organ score is arranged by Helmut Walcha, in 1956.
